Am 1. Oktober 2026 schaltet das Rechenzentrum der Hochschule Bremerhaven die Weiterleitungsmöglichkeit von Hochschul-E-Mails an private E-Mail-Clients für Studierende ab. Das bedeutet, dass Studierende ab dann die an ihre Hochschul-E-Mail-Adresse geschickten Nachrichten über ihr offizielles Hochschul-E-Mail-Konto abrufen und lesen können. Diese Entscheidung wurde auf Empfehlung des Ausschusses zur kontinuierlichen Verbesserung der IT-Infrastruktur getroffen, in dem alle Statusgruppen, inklusive der Studierenden, vertreten sind. Dies teilen Hochschulleitung und Rechenzentrum mit.
Die Abschaltung der Weiterleitungsmöglichkeit an private Mail-Accounts ist notwendig geworden, da vermehrte Mailaufkommen durch Mails von der Hochschule Bremerhaven insbesondere beim Provider Microsoft regelmäßig dazu führt, dass diese als Spam behandelt werden. Infolgedessen wurde die gesamte Hochschule in den vergangenen Wochen bei einigen Anbietern geblockt, was problematische Auswirkungen auf Bewerbungen bei ecampus und auf die behördliche und wissenschaftliche Kommunikation hat.
Wer weiterhin E-Mails, die an die studentische E-Mail-Adresse adressiert sind, im privaten Mail-Client (z.B. Outlook oder Thunderbird) empfangen und bearbeiten möchte, kann das über die Einrichung eines Unterkontos erreichen. Alternativ bieten Provider die Möglichkeit an, im ihrem Webmailportal externe E-Mail-Accounts mit einzubinden (Mail Collector, Sammeldienst), sodass die studentischen E-Mails regelmäßig abgerufen werden. Anleitungen und Tipps dazu folgen in Kürze. Die Hochschulleitung bittet in diesem Zusammenhang Lehrende und Mitarbeitende darum, die Studierenden auf die Abschaltung der Weiterleitungsfunktion schon jetzt hinzuweisen und insbesondere Rundschreiben auf ein absolut nötiges Maß zu reduzieren.
Mitarbeitenden ist laut E-Mail-Nutzungsordnung das Weiterleiten an private E-Mail-Clients aus datenschutzrechtlichen Gründen untersagt. Jedoch bleibt bei Lehrenden und Beschäftigten die Weiterleitungsfunktion für hochschulinterne Zwecke (z.B. Vertretungsfälle) aktiv.

From October 2026, it will no longer be possible to forward university emails to private email clients
On 1 October 2026, the University of Bremerhaven’s IT Centre will disable the option for students to forward university emails to private email clients. This means that, from then on, students will be able to access and read messages sent to their university email address via their official university email account. This decision was taken on the recommendation of the Committee for the Continuous Improvement of the IT Infrastructure, on which all stakeholder groups, including students, are represented. This has been announced by the university management and the IT Centre.
The deactivation of the forwarding option to private email accounts has become necessary because the increased volume of emails from Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences – particularly when sent via Microsoft – regularly results in these emails being treated as spam. Consequently, the entire university has been blocked by some providers in recent weeks, which has had problematic consequences for applications via ecampus and for communication with public authorities and academic bodies.
Anyone who wishes to continue receiving and managing emails addressed to their student email address in a personal email client (e.g. Outlook or Thunderbird) can do so by setting up a sub-account. Alternatively, providers offer the option of integrating external email accounts into their webmail portal (Mail Collector, collection service), so that student emails are retrieved regularly. Instructions and tips on this will follow shortly. In this context, the university management asks lecturers and staff to inform students now that the forwarding function is being deactivated and, in particular, to reduce the number of circulars to what is absolutely necessary.
According to the email usage policy, staff are prohibited from forwarding emails to private email clients for data protection reasons. However, the forwarding function remains active for teaching staff and staff for internal university purposes (e.g. cover arrangements).
